As always, we're asking you to read one book, of your own choosing, from each of the categories. For a small fee, t-shirts will be available to members at the September meeting.
Not everyone had finished it, but it's from the library's reading group list, and it's not due back until 18th August, so member's have the chance to keep reading it.
In the book, J and his friends George and Harris and his dog, Montmorency, decide to take a boating holiday on the Thames for a fortnight. Sleeping on the boat under a canvas cover, or in nearby inns on other nights. J, the narrator, goes off onto lengthy tangents quite frequently, but many of them are amusing, if abruptly ended to bring the reader back to the current boat trip.
Overall, most of the group enjoyed the book.
Before that, our June meeting was rescheduled to be a walking book group. This year we walked a short route around Runcorn Hill, ending at Espositos for ice cream, it was a very warm day. We'd been reading Stephen and Matilda: The Civil War of 1139-53, by Jim Bradbury, a non-fiction history of the period called "The Anarchy".
