Next Meeting: 25th September - Queen's Head - 7:30pm

The next meeting will be at the Queen's Head in Frodsham, where we have reserved a table for 7:30pm - This will be the post-Summer Reading Challenge Prize Giving.

This year's Summer Reading Challenge is five books, one in each of the following categories:

We ran two walking book clubs, to try and catch most people, and we lucked out with the weather on both days.

We also walked two different, and quite lovely routes, although the second route did have more insect bites!

Most people seemed to enjoy Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont, by Elizabeth Taylor, it was a nicely paced, quite genteel book, with excellent depictions of old age, which we were suprised to discover, the author never actually achieved, and so was not writing from her own experience. A Radio 4 programme broadcast recently actually discussed Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont, and Elizabeth Taylor, the author, and featured her grandson, so it was nice to be able to reference that during our walk. People's opinions on the other characters varied greatly, but with a nice gentle pace, in lovely surroundings, we were able to hold forth and have an enjoyable conversation about the book.

The experiment was hailed a success and will be worth repeating!

No meeting in August as most people will be away and finding a suitable date will be hard, but we've 5 books to read before September, so the we'll need the extra time!
